Very often the mistakes you make with marketing on the web are preventable. But the flip side to that is you can paralyze yourself if you become overly anxious about what could happen. The best mindset is to do what you know and believe is right. But for most individual IM marketers, you have to give yourself time to get the right perspective.

A lot of marketers can become afraid to do anything because they want to avoid mistakes and that is not a wise choice.

Even as this article is being written, emails are flooding in from well known marketers who are trying to sell black hat methods for getting backlinks. Of course, the first Panda update happened a year ago. You, obviously, are in control of your own business, but the smart business decision is never going to be using low quality backlinks. Google is starting to get more aggressive and going after low quality backlinks as much as they are able to. Obviously, people do this to save time with their backlinking, but this approach has nothing to do with time savings. Besides that, social media and sharing is the very clear trend for future SEO. So, really, the smart thing to do is to take advantage of this trend while it is happening.

So take your niche or market, and then look for an appropriate design that will blend well with it.

Look at your daily metrics and then you will see what needs attention or not. Depending on your traffic, you may get quick results or have to wait a little bit.

It is difficult to think of little details like this when you are trying to go about your business every day. But you always should make some time for your IM education. If you really want to make more money you need to know which pitfalls you should be avoiding.
